VeryRite welcomes pitches from writers, practitioners, researchers and industry professionals who have something genuinely useful to say about technology, startups and the world of work. If you can help our readers understand a subject better, or make a better decision, we want to hear from you.
What We Are Looking For
We publish contributed articles in our six core areas:
- Artificial intelligence: practical adoption, real-world results, limitations, policy and ethics.
- Startups: lessons from building, fundraising, hiring, product development and the Canadian startup ecosystem.
- Cybersecurity: clear, actionable guidance for individuals and small organizations, and analysis of significant threats.
- Gadgets: thoughtful perspectives on devices and how people actually use them.
- Fintech: how payments, banking and financial tools are changing, explained clearly and without investment recommendations.
- Business and work: remote and hybrid work, productivity, management, careers and workplace tools.
The strongest pitches draw on first-hand experience or expertise, offer original insight or data, and are relevant to Canadian readers. We are less interested in generic listicles, broad overviews that are already widely available, or articles that mainly promote a product or company.
Editorial Guidelines
- Originality. Submissions must be your own original, unpublished work. We do not accept articles that have appeared elsewhere, including on your own blog or LinkedIn, and we check submissions for plagiarism.
- Length. Most contributed articles are between 1,000 and 2,000 words. Depth matters more than length.
- Style. Write in clear, plain English using Canadian spelling. Explain technical terms. Avoid hype, jargon and marketing language.
- Sourcing. Support factual claims with links to credible primary sources. Clearly separate facts from your opinions.
- Disclosure. Tell us about any affiliation, employment, investment or relationship with companies or products mentioned in your article. Relevant connections will be disclosed in your author bio.
- AI tools. You may use AI tools for research support or proofreading, but your article must be your own writing and thinking. Tell us how you used AI tools, if at all. We do not accept AI-generated articles.
- Images. Only send images you own or have the right to license to us, with credit information.
All contributed articles are edited by the VeryRite editorial team for accuracy, clarity, length and style, and are held to the standards in our Editorial Policy & Ethics. We will share significant edits with you before publication.
No Paid Links or Paid Placements
We do not accept payment for publishing contributed articles, and we do not sell links, link insertions or “guest post” placements. Any request to include paid, affiliate or tracking links will be declined. Links in contributed articles must serve readers, and they are added at the discretion of our editors. You may include a short author bio with one link to your own website or professional profile.
If you represent a brand and want to reach our readers through a paid arrangement, please see Advertise With Us. Paid content is always clearly labelled as sponsored.
How to Pitch
- Read VeryRite first. Look at recent articles in the section you are pitching to, and check that we have not already covered your idea.
- Send a short pitch, not a finished article. Email [email protected] with the subject line “Pitch: [your working headline]”.
- Include the essentials: a working headline; a summary of two or three paragraphs explaining your argument or angle and why it matters to our readers now; a rough outline; why you are the right person to write it; any relevant affiliations; and links to two or three published writing samples.
- Wait for our reply. We aim to respond to pitches within 10 business days. If you have not heard from us after that, you are free to pitch your idea elsewhere.
- Write and edit. If we accept your pitch, an editor will agree the scope, deadline and terms with you before you start writing.
Information you send us with a pitch is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We look forward to reading your ideas.
