About Us

VeryRite is an independent Canadian magazine about technology, startups and the changing world of work. We publish news, analysis, explainers, reviews and practical guides for readers who want to understand how new technology actually affects their businesses, careers and everyday lives, without the hype and without the jargon.

Behind every article is the VeryRite editorial team: a small group of writers and editors who care about getting things right. Our name is a reminder of that goal. We would rather publish one carefully reported story than five rushed ones.

Our Mission

Technology moves quickly, and much of the coverage that follows it moves even faster. Product launches are treated as revolutions, funding announcements are treated as proof of success, and complicated trade-offs are flattened into headlines. Our mission is to slow that down just enough to make it useful.

We want readers to finish a VeryRite article knowing three things: what happened, why it matters, and what, if anything, they should do about it, so they can make their own decisions.

We write from a Canadian perspective. That means paying attention to Canadian companies, Canadian regulators, Canadian prices and Canadian realities, from provincial privacy rules to the state of the domestic startup ecosystem, while still covering the global stories that shape the industry.

What We Cover

Our coverage is organized around six core beats:

  • Artificial intelligence. Generative AI, machine learning and automation: what the tools can and cannot do, how organizations are adopting them, and the policy, ethical and labour questions they raise.
  • Startups. Founders, funding, accelerators and the business models behind new companies, with a particular interest in the Canadian startup scene and the lessons it offers early-stage teams.
  • Cybersecurity. Breaches, scams, vulnerabilities and practical defences, written so that individuals and small organizations can actually act on the advice.
  • Gadgets. Phones, laptops, wearables, smart-home devices and accessories, assessed for real-world value rather than spec-sheet bragging rights.
  • Fintech. Digital banking, payments, open banking, personal finance apps and the regulation that governs them. We explain financial technology; we do not give personalized financial advice.
  • Business and work. Remote and hybrid work, productivity, management, careers and the tools that shape the modern workplace.

Our Editorial Values

Every story we publish is guided by a short list of commitments:

  • Accuracy first. We check facts, attribute claims and link to primary sources wherever possible. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly.
  • Independence. Advertisers, sponsors and partners do not decide what we cover or what we conclude. Sponsored content is always clearly labelled.
  • Clarity. We explain technical subjects in plain language and define terms the first time we use them. Good journalism should not require a glossary.
  • Fairness. We give companies and people a reasonable opportunity to respond to significant criticism, and we try to represent opposing views accurately.
  • Usefulness. We favour stories that help readers understand or decide something over stories that simply generate clicks.
  • Transparency. We tell readers how we work, including how we use affiliate links and how we use AI tools in our process.

These values are set out in more detail in our Editorial Policy & Ethics.

How We Research

Our reporting starts with primary material: official announcements, regulatory filings, court documents, academic research, government statistics, company documentation and direct conversations with the people involved. We treat press releases as a starting point rather than a conclusion, and we look for independent confirmation of significant claims before presenting them as fact.

When we review products, we evaluate them through hands-on use wherever practical, and we tell you when a review is based on a loaned unit, a purchased unit or published specifications. When we explain a law or regulation, we refer to the text of the legislation and to guidance from the relevant regulator rather than relying on secondary summaries. When a story involves numbers, we check the methodology behind them.

Every article is reviewed by an editor before publication, and we show the date an article was last updated so you can judge whether it is still current.

The VeryRite Shop

VeryRite also runs a small online shop offering branded merchandise, including notebooks, pens, mugs, tote bags and other everyday items designed for people who like to think, write and build. Prices are listed in Canadian dollars, and we ship within Canada and to the United States.

The shop helps support our journalism, but it is kept separate from our editorial decisions. Buying from the shop never influences our coverage, and our editorial team does not write promotional articles about our own merchandise. You can read about delivery times, rates and returns on our Shipping & Returns page, and the terms that apply to purchases in our Terms & Conditions.

How We Are Funded

VeryRite is supported by advertising, clearly labelled sponsorships, affiliate commissions and shop sales, as explained in our Disclaimer. None of these gives anyone the right to review or change our journalism. Writers can pitch us through Write for Us, and brands can see Advertise With Us.

How to Reach Us

We read every message we receive. The best way to get in touch is through our Contact Us page or by email:

If you have spotted an error in one of our articles, please tell us. Corrections make our work better, and we are grateful to every reader who takes the time to help.
