Official blog of PlayStation has posted that they will release PlayStation app for both iOS and Android platform. Android handsets must have at least Android 1.6 version for this app to work. iOS devices can only enjoy this app if the have the version iOS 4 or above.
There is another limitation as the app will only be available in the countries: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands. More countries will be added next year. No detail of that countries has been provided yet.
The version 1.0 of PlayStation app on iOS and Android will let you:
- Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
- Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
- Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
- Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.
Sony has not announced any intentions of allowing users to play games with this application. Instead, apparently, it has been made to show Sony’s and PlayStation‘s presence on bigger platforms like iOS and Android. Simply you can say they are branding their product in the Smartphone world.
