FireCore has released an updated version of Seas0nPass tool that has the ability to jailbreak Apple TV running firmware version 5.3.
“Today we’re excited to announce the release of new versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass that allow for an untethered jailbreak of Apple TV 5.3 (ATV2 only).” said FireCore team in a blog post.
ATV firmware 5.3 is equivalent to iOS version 6.1.4. The new Seas0nPass can provide you with the untethered jailbreak while previously it was capable only of tethered jailbreak on version 5.3. That means you won’t be having any complications after the restarts.
Remember this is the second generation Apple TV jailbreak we are talking about. The third generation ATV has not been jailbroken yet.
Seas0nPass version 2.4 comes with an added support for untethered Apple TV 5.3, improved reliability of installation process, improved diagnostic reporting and many bug fixes and improvements.
It is to be noted than the FireCore team is using the same exploit used by @iH8sn0w, @winocm, and @SquiffyPwn in P0sixpwn jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 6.1.5.
The team has also hinted that their has been a significant progress on Apple TV 6.0+ jailbreak and they hope to update us soon on it.
If you are on Apple TV firmware version 6.0 or above, you can still install version 5.3 because apparently Apple is still signing it. You can download restore 5.3 using the iTunes.
Download Seas0nPass for ATV 5.3 Untethered Jailbreak:
If you are already on version 5.3, just go to Maintenance > Manage Extras on your ATV2 and install the Maintenance (2.4) update and the Click to Untether (1.2) items. Then a restart and thats it.
If you are not on 5.3 already, you can make a backup, then download the Seas0nPass and run it to update the Apple TV to 5.3 untethered. Then download and use the aTV flash (black) version 2.4 to reinstall.
