iH8sn0w, the developer behind Sn0wbreeze has updated his software to jailbreak iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 is released for the iOS 5.0.1 and capable of jailbreaking iOS 5.0 as well. The tools also fixes Location Services and iBooks sandbox issues.

The update prohibits UDID check that means its not necessary for you to be Apple developer to use this beta version. Below is the change log provided by the developer:

Supports iOS 5.0 (9A334)/5.0.1-b1 (9A402)
Fixed iBooks sandbox crashing issues.
Fixed location services issues with iPhone 3GS users running the iPad baseband.
Re-added iPad baseband install option to iPhone 3GS.
Removes UDID requirement/Beta timer in 5.0.1.
Tethered devices are booted via iBooty which is
extracted to the Desktop after running sn0wbreeze.

Also its a tethered jailbreak solution except for the iPhone 3GS old bootrom which enjoys untethered jailbreak. Also it does not support iPad 2 and iPhone 4S devices.

You can use tethered sn0wbreeze and after that install the Semi Tethered jailbreak from Cydia by following this link.

In past, Sn0wbreeze was differentiated from Redsn0w because it had the ability of preserving baseband. Now Redsn0w has added PwnageTool functionality of preventing baseband from upgrading. Now, Sn0wbreeze does not have that edge of enjoying extra functionality but its still a popular alternative of Redsn0w. Remember Sn0wbreeze is offered as a Windows only tool.

For all other devices, we are still waiting for the untethered jailbreak on iOS 5 which hopefully will be released by Chronic Dev Team first.
