As you already know that iPhone Dev Team has released PwnageTool for Mac OS. The tool helps you to do an untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak on your device. The jailbreak tool uses Chronic Dev Team’s exploit to do an untethered jailbreak on your iDevice. The same exploit was used in the Greenpois0n RC5 tool. Follow the guide to use PwnageTool to do a clean iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak.
If you are unaware of this tool, PwnageTool creates a custom firmware and install it on your iOS device using iTunes.
The devices supported by PwnageTool released by the Dev Team are: iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, Verizon iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4, iPad, AppleTV 2G.
STEP BY STEP HOW TO Create Custom Firmware iOS 4.2.1 USING PwnageTool.
STEP 1:
- Download PwnageTool 4.2.1 for Mac.
- Make a folder name PwnageTool and copy the downloaded file there.
- Connect your iOS device with your Mac.
- Launch the application by clicking on it.
- It will open a pop-up with the Copyright message, click OK.
STEP 2:
- Click the Advance Mode button and choose your type of device.
- Click on the blue proceed button at the right bottom to move to the next step.
STEP 3:
- Click ‘Browse for IPSW..’ button and find the original 4.2.1 IPSW firmware saved in your Mac. (We are assuming that you already have this file)
- Click the proceed button at the right bottom after selecting the file.
STEP 4:
- Click on “General”
- Click the proceed button at the right bottom.
STEP 5:
- Check the “Activate the phone” option if you are not using the services of some official carrier. If you are using some official carrier services then do not select this option.
- You can enable other options like functionalities not present in the default version of iOS for devices such as iPhone 3G.
STEP 6:
- Now you will see Cydia Settings menu. It allows you to install the packages by selecting them instead of manual installation afterwards.
- Click on “Download packages” on the menu bar. Click on refresh then select the packages you want by putting checks and clicking “Add to Queue”
- Now come back to the Select Packages Tab. The packages you have selected are there now. Select them.
- Click the blue button to proceed.
STEP 7:
- Click the “Build” button to start the process.
- Click the blue button to proceed.
STEP 8:
- It will prompt a window to save your custom firmware to some location on your Mac.
- Select a location where you want to save the custom firmware.
STEP 9:
- The PwnageTool will now create the custom firmware. It takes some time so bear with it.
- After that it will also ask you for the administrator password. Type in to move forward.
STEP 10:
- Now it will ask you to put your device in the DFU mode.
- Follow the self explanatory instructions to put your device into DFU mode.
STEP 11:
- After its in the DFU mode, it will prompt you to close the pwnagetool application and restore your custom firmware using the iTunes.
STEP 12:
- While in iTunes, hold the Alt/option key and then click the Restore button.
STEP 13:
- Select the custom firmware that you have created by clicking the Choose button.
STEP 14:
- Restore process will be done by the iTunes. Give it time to complete the process.
- You device will now be restart and thats it.
Congratulations!! You have successfully created a custom firmware and restore in on your device.
You can use Ultrasn0w to unlock your device now. Other wise the device will remain locked for the SIM part. The Ultrasn0w unlock is not for the higher basebands.
