Since many of you are waiting for the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, we have a good news for you. Group of famous developers from jailbreak community may be close enough to break the enhanced security measures in iOS 6.
The developers including Pod2g, PlanetBeing and MuscleNerd were speaking at the Hack in the Box security conference in Kuala Lumpur reported by MacWorld.
During the HiTB conference, the hackers also presented a talk about Kernel Security for iOS 6 to the attendees followed by a demo of kernel exploit that was in action to install and run Cydia on iOS 6 running on iPhone 5.
“At the moment, I’m kind of stuck … but it could change in a week,” said Cyril aka Pod2g. “It’s luck, I think.”
It is to be noted that iOS 6 came with a much improved security and its quite a challenge for these developers to come up with new exploits because old techniques won’t penetrate through the security. Even nowadays one exploit is not enough and multiple exploits together play the role.
“We still have a few tricks up our sleeves,” said Wang who goes by the name PlanetBeing.
Famous jailbreak and baseband hacker MuscleNerd said: “We think we have something that’s working under a certain set of conditions.” But before the final jailbreak is released, “it’s a very technical, very boring set of steps” that need to be taken to make a more refined user experience…The overall technique works. We think we have the flow for it.”
“All the previous techniques that have been used have basically been made for the most part useless,” Dowd said. “But there’s still room to move and its still possible to exploit the kernel in iOS6, but the bar has definitely been raised.”
“It’s very engrossing,” Wang said. “It’s kind of like doing a very complicated Sudoku or a crossword but it’s like 10 times harder. It’s just entertaining to be able to use your brain in that way. It’s really the only reason I do it.”
Pod2g who has recently became the most famous among all the jailbreakers was confident enough and said “I’m still confident we can find something in the next few weeks.”
