Hey iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreakers: You Need To Save iOS 5.1.1 SHSH Blobs NOW

by cM Boy on May 27, 2012

We were all excited to get the new jailbreak and now that its here, everyone is enjoying it. Untethered iOS 5.1.1 was released a couple of days ago in the form of Absinthe for both Mac and Windows. Pod2g and fellow developers have done a tremendous job by making it available for all iOS devices.

Anyways as you are enjoying the untether 5.1.1, there is a VERY VERY important thing you need to do. You need to save your SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1. If you are new to the jailbreaking world, let me tell you that its a necessary thing to do once you get untethered jailbreak on any firmware. I cannot emphasize it anymore.

Why Saving SHSH blobs is important ?

Well you must be thinking why i am stressing too much ? Well saving SHSH blobs allows you to downgrade to the firmware anytime in the future. Now that iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak has been released, Apple will patch these exploits and will release a new firmware version say iOS 5.1.2. So when release it, if by mistake or just to check or what ever is the reason you upgrade to iOS 5.1.2 where you will have no jailbreak and you want to come back to iOS 5.1.1, you can always come back by downgrading from iOS 5.1.2 to iOS 5.1.1 provided you have SHSH blobs saved for iOS 5.1.1. Apple will stop signing iOS 5.1.1 after they release iOS 5.1.2 so those without SHSH blobs will not be able to install 5.1.1 on their devices.

How Can You Save SHSH Blobs ?

Now you must be thinking how to do that ? Well there is no rocket science involved in it. There are different methods by which you can perform this task.

The first method is easy and the good thing about it is that you don’t have to do anything in it. Cydia is there to save SHSH blobs whenever an untethered jailbreak is released for any firmware. All you need to do is to verify that. It automatically saves them for you. To verify, you just need to open Cydia and on the top you will see he iOS versions for which it has saved your SHSH blobs. If iOS 5.1.1 is there, then you take a chill pill.

The famous method of saving SHSH blobs is using TinyUmbrella. All you need to do is to download it, connect your device with computer, open the TinyUmbrella software and click on the save SHSH button.

You can also use Redsn0w to save SHSH blobs by opening Redsn0w software and going to Extras > SHSH Blobs. We have covered a how to guide to use Redsn0w to backup blobs which you can find below:
