Earlier we told you that iPhone Dev Team has released an updated version of Redsn0w that allows you to downgrade iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3. So why would you downgrade your A5 based devices from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.0.1 ? Because 5.0.1 has an untethered jailbreak available for it.
Remember you need to have SHSH blobs saved in order for this process to work either using Cydia or TinyUmbrella. Open Cydia application and on the first screen you will see the iOS version numbers for which Cydia has saved SHSH blobs for your device. Let us go through the process of downgrading.
STEP 1: You need the downloads required for the whole process.
- Download Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 for Mac and Windows and extract it.
- Download iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S or iPad 2 (the version to which you want to downgrade)
- Download iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone 4S or iPad 2 (current version)
STEP 2: Open Redsn0w and navigate to Extras -> Even More -> Restore.
STEP 3: Now click on the IPSW button and browse to the firmware you want to downgrade to which in this case is iOS 5.0.1.
STEP 4: It will show you the following screen asking that another firmware is required. Click on OK and browse iOS 5.1.1 which in this case is your current firmware.
STEP 5: It will show you the following message. If you care about the unlock, you should not proceed because it will update your baseband, otherwise you can click on OK to start to continue the process.
STEP 6: Redsn0w will now put your device into the recovery mode by itself. You can also manually put in the DFU mode before the first step of this guide.
STEP 7: Now you need to use your SHSH blobs. If you have previously jailbroken iOS 5.0.1 before you upgraded to iOS 5.1.1, your SHSH must be saved to Cydia server so at this stage you need to choose “Remote”. You can also choose “Local” and fine your blobs from TinyUmbrella. Our SHSH blobs are saved to Cydia so we are choosing “Remote”.
STEP 8: Redsn0w will go through the process and you will see a window showing you the progress. All you need to do is to sit and wait for it to finish. Once its done, it will show you the following screen. Thats it.
