Great news for the jailbreak community, iOS developer and Chronic Dev Team’s key member, Pod2g, has successfully completed iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak. He announced this good news in a tweet: “Heya! My iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 is now untethered :-)”
Remember there is still a lot of work needed for iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S but there is a possibility that he releases it for older devices first.
Earlier Pod2g has asked users to vote whether they want him to release the jailbreak for iOS 5.1 or keep his exploits for the upcoming iOS 6. Remember jailbreaking a device does require quite a lot of effort. Finding vulnerabilities in the software and then writing and packaging exploits takes time.
Remember if he releases jailbreak by using these exploits, they will be patched by Apple by introducing a minor firmware update let us say iOS 5.2. Apple is expected to announce iOS 6 during the World Wide Developer Conference announced next month from June 11 to June 15.
