Earlier we updated that untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak developed by Pod2g has been released. iPhone Dev Team released Redsn0w 0.9.10 while Chronic Dev Team released “Corona Untether” both for iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak on all devices other than iPad 2 and iPhone 4s.
iPhone Dev Team has also released PwnageTool 5.0.1 for un-lockers to get untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak while preserving baseband.
Remember you can also preserve your baseband with Redsn0w by going to “Extras => Custom IPSW”. If you ask us, PwnageTool was not necessary as the same custom firmware functionality is also offered by Redsn0w. Too many tools confuse a lot of newbies. Anyways there are people who still find comfortable with Pwnage Tool so follow the guide below.
Remember this is a Mac only tool. Its alternative for Windows is Sn0wbreeze that will get updated soon. By the way you dont need to wait for Sn0wbreeze as Redsn0w can also do the same thing that both these tools can do.
How To Preserve Your Baseband & Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered With PwnageTool
Step 1: Download PwnageTool and also download iOS 5.0.1 firmware. Save both in a folder on desktop.
Step 2: Open the PwnageTool dmg file and run then run the application. Press OK when it shows you a copyright message.
Step 3: Click on the “Expert Mode” and then select the device on which you are going to operate.
Step 4: Click on “Browse for IPSW” and then choose the iOS 5.0.1 firmware you downloaded in first step. It will start identifying the firmware.
Step 5: Click on “Build” and then press the next button.
Step 6: It will start building the IPSW. It takes some time so do not interrupt it. Just sit back and relax. After that it will ask you the location to save the custom IPSW its creating.
Step 7: At this point, the custom IPSW is created. Now its asking you to put your device in DFU mode by following the self explanatory instruction on the screen. You have to press both Home and Power button for 10 seconds and then let go the Power button without leaving the Home button for another 10 seconds. You device will go in to the DFU mode.
Step 8: Now you can open iTunes and press Alt on Mac’s keyboard and click on Restore on iTunes. Now browse for the custom IPSW and iTunes will restore it. Remember you need to select the newly created firmware by PwnageTool. Its name is a little different with “custom firmware” in it.
Step 9: Now you can unlock your device by using Ultrasn0w. How to Unlock iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4 and 3GS With Ultrasn0w 1.2.5.
