We already know the hacker pod2g is working on the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak. He is already successful in developing untethered 5 jb for older devices including iPhone 4/3GS, iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3G/4G. Now he is working on iPhone 4S jailbreak.
Earlier he was having some cache related issues with the iPhone 4S jailbreak but now those issues are fixed by him by the help of Jay Freeman aka Saurik. Yet another step close to the iPhone 4S jailbreak.
Pod2g has updated his blog explaining it:
No more cache troubles
OK, figured it out, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore.
I sorted it out by doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process.
It took me like a hundred of tests to find the key. Hard for the nerves.
For the tech guys, here is a link explaining issues related to self modifying code ( or code patching ) on the ARM platform : http://blogs.arm.com/software-enablement/141-caches-and-self-modifying-code/
Another news : I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he’s found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He’s definitely one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik!
It does not necessarily means he has completed all the work but the issues he was facing are fixed now. Let us see how much time he will take to come up with a complete solution.
Many users are asking about the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak on iPad 2, well the developer has not updated its status yet. But we are assuming that the news for iPad 2 will come along with the iPhone 4S jailbreak.
