Siri, an exclusive feature of iPhone 4S is one of the most desired software. Many users that do own iOS devices other than 4S are asking hackers to come up with a port for old iOS devices. Even Android users are looking for Siri and try to find its alternatives.
Earlier we told you that two hackers named Chpwn and StroughtonSmith have successfully ported Siri on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G followed by another developer who ported it on iPhone 3GS. But they refused to release it to the public due to legal issues.
Later we have seen another Siri port to non-4S devices but that was also declared illegal and everyone from the iOS jailbreak community asked not to install it.
Its very clear now that due to legal issues they are unable to release it. Active member of the jailbreak community explained it in a blog post.
When we have the ability to decrypt the encrypted iPhone 4S firmware file to extract the Siri files legally, without the need for an iPhone 4S and we have an iPhone 4S jailbreak to obtain the other nececssary information at a mass scale, hopefully this can become a reality and everyone can try out Siri on their older devices.
It is now clear that decryption of iPhone 4S file system is required to extract Siri files and then use them on other devices. This was not possible before until yesterday when Apple released another version of iOS 5.0.1 only for iPhone 4S.
Noted by famous developer MuscleNerd, the latest software update by Apple for iPhone 4S contains decrypted ramdisks that makes it possible to extract important files from it and use them for Siri port without violating copyrights.
So this is a great news. We have to wait a little to see who comes up with a Siri port as now it does not have anything to do with the copyright infringements.
It is not clear why Apple left this hole for the hackers that could result in a legal Siri port for all iOS devices. iOS 5.1 is in its beta and will be public soon. Apple might re-encrypt it again. But untethered jailbreak is coming for iOS 5.0.1 for sure by Pod2g and if we also get Siri with it that would be simply awesome.
