Remember we told you that its not possible to save SHSH blobs with the arrival of iOS 5. More precisely, softwares like Redsn0w were allowing to save partial SHSH blobs but it was not possible to restore them and downgrade back to the previous version.
All thanks to iH8sn0w, the developer behind famous Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool. He has introduced an updated version of iFaith. The tool allows you to save SHSH blobs of iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1. iFaith also allows you to create custom firmware using the saved SHSH file. This custom firmware can be restored using iTunes for later downgrade. Follow the how to guide below.
Simply, the custom firmware that you will create, say you have created a custom firmware of iOS 5.0 and then you upgrade to iOS 5.0.1. You can downgrade from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 by restoring this custom firmware no matter Apple stops signing it.
Remember iFaith is a Windows only tool and it works on all devices except for the A5 based devices that are iPhone 4S and iPad 2 because Limera1n is unable to operate on them.
How To Save SHSH Blobs iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1 with iFaith:
STEP 1: Download iFaith from HERE. Extract it and open iFaith application by right clicking and selecting “Run as administrator”. Now click on OK.
STEP 2: Click on “Dump SHSH Blobs” . It will pop a window for Apple TV 2, click on NO.
STEP 3: On the next window you will just see a few instruction and compatibility list. Good to see iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 in the list. Just hit “Proceed”.
Another window shows up for giving credit to the people. Click on “Lets Go”
STEP 4: Your iOS device must be connected to your Windows machine. It will ask you to put your device in DFU mode. Put off your iOS device and press HOME and POWER button for 10 seconds, then let go the Power button but keep on holding the Home button for another 10 seconds and your device will go into the DFU mode. Click on “Start” button on iFaith.
STEP 5: iFaith will now start its processing and you have to sit and watch it.
STEP 6: Once its completed, it will ask you to save the SHSH file that it has created. You can save it at any location of your choice. In this case we have saved it on the Desktop. Do not delete this file, it will be used to create custom firmware.
Now that your SHSH blobs has been saved, you have to create a custom firmware using this file. iFaith will create a custom firmware by stitching SHSH blobs files that it has created with the stock firmware file. Remember this custom firmware file will be used to downgrade by just simply restoring it. Follow the guide below.
How To Create a Custom Firmware Using Saved SHSH File:
STEP 1: Open iFaith (right click and use Run as Administrator option to open it) and click on “Build *signed* IPSW w/ Blobs”.
STEP 2: Click on “Browse for SHSH Blobs cache”.
Navigate where you have placed the saved SHSH blobs. We have saved it on the desktop earlier.
STEP 3: Now on the next windows, click on “Browse for the … IPSW”, your current firmware and open it.
STEP 4: Click on “Build IPSW”
STEP 5: iFaith will now start creating the custom firmware. You have to wait as it will take few minutes. Once its done, it will save the custom firmware file on your desktop. THATS IT!
Remember we have created it for iOS 5.0.1 in above guide. We can only verify it once iOS 5.1 is introduced.
Also remember its for the very first time we have got a solution for iOS 5 blobs and restoring. So here is a scenario, if you are on iOS 5.0, you can follow all above steps and thats it, now you can move to newer version like iOS 5.0.1. Now when you move to iOS 5.0.1, you can always downgrade your device back to iOS 5 by opening iTunes and restoring the custom firmware of iOS 5.
If you are on iOS 5.0.1, you also have to follow all above steps and make sure you place the files (SHSH file and custom firmware file) to some location for later use. When iOS 5.1 arrives for public and for some reason you want to go back to iOS 5.0.1, you can restore it using iTunes and custom firmware you have saved.
