iOS 5.0.1 Tethered / Semi-Tethered Jailbreak Possible If You Don’t Want To Wait For iOS 5 Untethered

As you know Apple has released iOS 5.0.1 and there is no surprise if anyone tells you that its already jailbroken for devices other than A5 (iPad 2 & iPhone 4S). Of course its a tethered jailbreak solution. Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4 / 3G, iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3G / 4G.

Special Note For Those Who Have NOT Upgraded to iOS 5.0.1

Both iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team have warned NOT to update to iOS 5.0.1. TETHERED jailbreak of both iOS 5 / 5.0.1 is possible but more likely iOS 5 will get UNTETHERED JAILBREAK first. As soon as Apple stops signing iOS 5, it will NOT be possible to downgrade from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5 as currently it is not possible to save SHSH blobs of iOS 5.

So the following guide is only for those who have upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 and are ok with Tethered/Semi-Tethered jailbreak and can wait for developers to release untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. If you are still on iOS 5, you better stay on it.

How To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch With Redsn0w:

STEP 1:

• Download iTunes 10.5
• Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Mac or Windows
• Download iOS 5.0.1 [Direct Links] for your iOS device
• Download iOS 5.0 [Direct Links] for your iOS device

STEP 2: Update your device to iOS 5.0.1 using iTunes and using iOS 5.0.1 downloaded in first step. If you need to preserve your baseband, then follow this link ->Upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 while preserving baseband

STEP 3: Open Redsn0w and click on EXTRAS -> SELECT IPSW -> and point it to the iOS 5.0 firmware. (not to iOS 5.0.1 because Redsn0w is not being updated yet)

STEP 4: After the IPSW selection, on the first screen of Redsn0w, now click on JAILBREAK and then INSTALL CYDIA and then put your device in DFU by self explanatory instructions. Redsn0w will jailbreak your device.

STEP 5: After that you need a tethered boot. For this purpose, open Redsn0w and click on EXTRAS -> JUST BOOT, then put your device in DFU mode and it will do the rest.
