Siri, the iOS personal assistant software is an exclusive feature for iPhone 4S and it will remain an exclusive feature of 4S device as the company has no intention to release it for other devices.
Earlier we told you that Apple has released a special firmware integrated with Siri to its employees for testing purposes. According to reports, it was tested on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. The test process went successful and Apple removed the feature from their employee’s devices by pulling that special firmware released internally.
Before that we have heard two developers from jailbreak community successfully ported Siri on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G and later another one ported Siri to iPhone 3GS. But they didn’t release Siri it as it involves piracy.
So it made many of us wonder that Apple might release it officially for devices other than iPhone 4S.
A person emailed Apple and asked whether they are bringing Siri for other devices in the form of another firmware update. Apple replied to their customer saying “Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue: Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices”. So the statement has made things clear now.
We are not amazed to hear these words as Siri is one of the selling points for iPhone 4S device. Apple would never like to lower the sales for its newly release product. So Siri not coming to iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and other devices officially.
It is to be noted that “Siri only works on iPhone 4S”, this was just a reply to clarify that they have no intention to release it for other devices. We have seen Siri successfully ported by hackers on iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 3GS. But alas they didn’t release it due to legal issues.
Our last hope is again these developers who have already ported it successfully. We are aslo waiting for untethered iOS 5 jailbreak that might bring Siri port to other devices.
