Semi Tethered iOS 5 Jailbreak Updated With MobileSubstrate Support & Patched Safari

by casey on October 31, 2011

Previously we told you about a new type of jailbreak for iOS 5 that comes as a Cydia packes known as Semi Tethered jailbreak. As the tethered only jailbreak always require you to connect it with a computer when ever the device gets rebooted. That means the device remain useless till you connect it with a computer for a tethered reboot. Semi tethered comes as a solution to this problem by allowing you to use few of the very important apps like the Phone and SMS.

Rest of the apps remain non-functional unless you reach near your computer to give it a tethered boot. Of course the solution is to have an untethered jailbreak which requires you to wait for the developers to find vulnerabilities in the firmware to offer it. So till the time we are not getting the best one that is the untethered one we have to rely on Semi tethered which is a much better solution than a tethered only jailbreak.

If you want to know the difference between Semi Tethered, Tethered and Untethered jailbreak, follow the below link:

Anyways coming to the point. Semi Tethered jailbreak is updated to version 0.9.1 by BigBoss. The update makes it a much more stable version. Saurik helped them with his MobileSubstrate which means patching and restarting things have gone. Also the Safari app is patched to work in non-jailbreak mode. This is what they have updated on their blog about the changes in the latest update:

Semi Tetehred Safari Mobile Substrate

Summary of changes:
1) Much more stable with new mobile substrate
2) Can patch safari so it works in the non-jailbreak reboot mode
3) App to monitor the status of your semitether and reapply. Check after cydia installs.

They are now looking to configure MyWi and AppSync as well. Let us see how much they are going to improve Semi tethered jailbreak.
