As you already know, iPhone Dev Team has brought a major change in their jailbreaking tool Redsn0w. The latest version comes with features that includes jailbreak without IPSW selection, fix recovery and yes the SHSH blobs saving ability. Let us see how to save SHSH blobs with Redsnow on Mac and Windows.
Previously we were using the most famous TinyUmbrella to save SHSH blobs. A few of the users were also using iSHSHit that does the same thing. TinyUmbrella is very easy to use but its a separate tool. Jailbreaking tools like Redsnow, Sn0wbreeze etc. were always lacking the built in SHSH blobs saving ability. Now with the updated Redsnow, iPhone Dev Team has added many cool features which also includes backup of SHSH blobs.
If you are new to jailbreaking world and are unaware of what SHSH blobs are, you can check a paragraph at the end of this post.
How to Save SHSH Blobs using Redsnow:
Step 1: Download Redsnow from HERE and run it and click on “Extras”
Step 2: Click on the “SHSH Blobs”
Step 3: Now click on the “Fetch” button to start the process.
Step4: Following screen will appear. At this point you need to make sure that your device is plugged off and connected to your computer. After you press Next, you have to put your device in DFU mode.
- Press the power button and home button together for 10 seconds.
- Now without releasing the home button, let go the power button for almost 15 seconds.
- After this your device will go into the DFU mode. Note it must be showing black screen on your iOS device that is an indication of DFU mode. If its not showing blank screen, it means you have not put it properly in the DFU.
Now it will start doing the process by it self. It will not take much time. It will then reboot your device and then pop up a SUCCESS message. Check out the images below.
Thats it! Congratulations! You have successfully saved your SHSH blobs for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. We have tested this on Mac. The same process goes for Windows users. All they need is to download the Windows version of Redsnow from the link above.
What are SHSH Blobs?
For the people who are not familiar, SHSH Blob is a signature verification file against Apple Server. It verifies that the iDevice is running the latest version of iOS. Saving SHSH blobs will allow you to restore to previous version. While doing so Apple will stop you doing the restore process. To make this happen you have send a request to different servers which forwards SHSH blobs to iTunes by just showing it that its a new version of iOS.
