We have a big news to share. Apple has blocked the hole used for iPhone 4 unlock using GEVEY SIM in the latest software update. Today, Apple has released iOS 5 beta 2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. With the new software update for developers, the company has closed the ability that GEVEY SIM interposer uses to unlock the iPhone 4 device.
Confirmed by iPhone Dev Team key member MuscleNerd:
it’s surprising Apple closed Gevey interposer hole in b2 rather than waiting until final (maybe they were under pressure)
If you are unaware, GEVEY SIM was a hardware based solution and in fact the only solution to unlock iv4 device on higher basebands. Gevey had the ability to unlock iv4 on higher basebands which included 02.10.04 / 03.10.01 / 04.10.01. On these basebands, software based solutions like Ultrasn0w are not operate able.
It requires you to dial any emergency number like 112 before it unlocks your iOS device. It spoofs Authentication and IMSI number provided by the SIM card to the mobile network. This helps your locked phones to utilize any network carrier. It gets all the data from AT&T SIM to the SIM card of your choice and thats it. Tested and works fine with firmware prior to iOS 5 beta 2 including iOS 4.3.1 / 4.3.2 and 4.3.3.
Apple has also started selling factory unlocked iPhone 4s officially. But if you compare the prices, you will still find GEVEY much cheaper. But it will no longer work as the vulnerability is fixed by Apple.
