Untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak For iPhone & iPad To End Pirated Apps?

Untethered iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch won’t be released before final version of iOS 5 firmware. Right now its in beta version. iOS 5 only has a tethered jailbreak solution using Redsn0w 0.9.8b1. But are you going to like it if you could not install any pirated apps in the upcoming untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 ??? No ?

Here is an idea. Stefan Esser, the man who developed untethered iOS 4.3.1 / 4.3.2 / 4.3.3 jailbreak is intended to create an exploit which will jailbreak iOS 5 but there will be NO pirated apps in it.

Here is what he has tweeted:

The idea to create a jailbreak that blocks pirated apps is going ping pong in my head. Might be a good motivator to do the iOS 5.0 untether.

ios 5 jailbreak no pirated apps

Cydia and Installous:

Most of the people has this confusion that Cydia is an application store that provides pirated apps. Well it’s not like that. It contains all those apps that are not signed by Apple. These apps are not in the Apple official App Store because Apple has not accepted them due to their strict policies etc. But there are apps in Cydia that you have to pay for. On the other hand you can find pirated apps is Installous.

What if Installous or any other store gets blocked which offer pirated apps?? Are you still going to jailbreak ??

If apple revised the return policy on apps to say a 24 trial period before you were charged then I dont see a problem with buying apps. But when apple just sends you the developers email it’s super sketchy spending more than a dollar on an app that usually doesn’t have a lite version to test out first.

Jailbreaking is not all about Installous and pirated App Store apps. Jailbreaking in my opinion is about allowing my iPhone to do things that make it easier to do certain tasks. So if they get rid of pirated apps, Then I will still jailbreak.

  • Coolmezznick

Ofcuz. Isn’t that the whole point of jailbreaking

Stefan Esser is an arrogant pr**k. If he believe so much in the moral of not using pirate apps then he can stop jailbreaking and respect apples intentions with their products.

  • iW1LL

I’m not going to lie. Installous is a HUGE motivator when it comes to Jailbreaking.nI also use a lot of tweaks (SBsettings, Android Lockscreen and many others). So to answer the Poll: Yes I would still Jailbreak…BUT I would like it less.

  • ChSchuldiner

If they do that I will remain on iOS 4.3.3.

  • Beastmods

Negative. I like to try apps before I buy. Guess there is always android. Better anyday.

  • luigirez1

I am almost fine with that. I just don’t want to lose playing Minecraft on my iPhone. The app isn’t on the app store only installous.

Yes i will certainly continue to jailbreak even if it becomes piracy free, and I in fact fully encourage i0n1c to work on this idea. I actually was attempting to get developers to add a piece of software to their cydia packages that kills installous long before he got the idea. The main reason legitimate companys do not generally use Cydia as an outlet for their products is that they dont wish to be associated with piracy. With piracy disabled i believe we will see more legitimate business interest in the jailbreak market. In addition, piracy hurts developers. Apple is not hurt by piracy, the third party developers who are trying to release a better product are. They need the money, or they cant keep developing, and no one wants that

it depends, apple charges to much for crappy apps. Think of all the times you actually bought an app and it wasn’t worth it. If they do get rid of pirated apps we will just find a way around it like usuall.

I think that would be a little messed up I mean most of actually use installous for what it was made. To test apps before we purchase them how are we going to know what we buy if we can’t test it!.

  • http://twitter.com/Bogmat20 Matthew Fidoe

That would s***, but i can live with that, being jailbroken is the main thing being able to install pirated apps is a bounus i think.nI would jailbreak iOS 5 indeed with or without pirated apps :-)

I am sorry, but why jailbreaking in the first place????nI know there are many tweeks in Cydia but com on why i would risk my idevice and jailbreak for some tweeks??!

I used Install0us to get ShapeWriter which isn’t in the App Store anymore. What if I want to update/re-download it?nnI like your ideas i0n1c but they are impractical!n

  • Goat_user

if we cant try the app before installing… it defeats a huge reason for jailbreaking besides the fact that it provides a good platform to add useful cydia app…..

    negative for that…
FYI if a person is from country where currency is small… 0.99 cents USD will be approx 5 bucks in their currency… what more an app which causes 149 USD and they didnt liked it??

  • BAM9412

i wouldu00a0definitelyu00a0still jailbreak. I like the freedom to customize my ipod the way I want it to be. There are also many different ways to get free apps than just installous, its just the easiest way. and with installous gone then maybe apple will be more receptive to more 3rd party apps than they used to be. im not saying to go ahead and get rid of installous, but i would be able to manage without it

  • Rad045

well i find installus very usefull cause i get to try the stuff out before i deside i wanna buy it….dont feel like making ol stev any richer that ne needs to be……n

  • oposum

    Wouldn’t jailbreak

  • Gfv

Isnt Stefan pointing out that playing some pirated games take too much of his time, time he wants to spend developing the jailbreak for iOS5??

  • Sunil_1202

I am in a favour of installous and hence jailbraek coz applications like Google Earth etcu00a0are not there on Apple iTunes Store of my country- India.

  • zepoy

i enjoyed jailbreaking because of tweeks and other things i can do about my iDevice… and installous is one of the biggest reason i did so… im not gonna lie, i enjoyed pirated apps so much… coz number 1, i dont have a credit card to purchase from app store.. number 2… free is still free… u cant change the fact that alot of guys especially noobs like me agree that pirated apps is one of the biggest reason why some guys do or support jailbreaking… get real guys…

  • http://twitter.com/z0mki Ki

Pirated apps is not my main motivator for jail breaking my iDevices.  I simply want to add tweaks and functionalities to make my experience less frustrating and more enjoyable.  Sure, free apps sounds nice but when there’s an update to a game/app, i.e. Angry Birds, I have to reinstall the app and must start my game from the beginning.  So to answer the question, yes I would still jail break even with no option to install cracked apps.  I have a feeling once iOS 5 is released, there will be less reasons to Jail Break for those of us who simply want to tweak our devices not steal software.

  • Marduk_70

Yes i would jailbreak anyway cuz i can then modify the looks ov my device so it fits my needs the way the iphone is orginally is boring and has big brother is watching you over it
I pay for stuff from cydia nowdays

  • GGJ

If I cant download installous there’s no point of having a jailbroken Iphone
