As we have already told you the good news. iPhone Dev Team has finally released untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Apple TV 2G. They have released two tools; redsn0w 0.9.6 RC9 and PwnageTool 4.3 for this purpose. The jailbreak solution is available for the devices which includes iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1.
NOTE it is NOT compatible with iPad 2 device. iPad 2 users have to wait a little longer to get untethered 4.3.1 JB.
Remember the exploit used by iPhone Dev Team behind Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC9 is originally developed by Stefan Esser who is a security expert. Previously he handed over his exploit to the iPhone Dev Team. So a great thanks to Stefan Esser.
Although iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak was already possible but that was TETHERED using Sn0wbreeze 2.4 and PwngeTool. Now this time they have released the untethered version.
HOW TO GUIDE to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 Using Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC 9
REMEMBER those who are relying on carrier unlock MUST NOT use Redsn0w. They are advised to use PwnageTool 4.3 for Mac or Sn0wbreeze 2.5 for Windows
STEP 1:
- Download iOS 4.3.1 firmware for your iDevice.
STEP 2:
- Update or Restore to the latest iOS 4.3.1 firmware (that you have download in Step 1) using iTunes 10.2.1.
STEP 3:
- Download Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC12 (UPDATED)
- Launch Redsn0w application that you have downloaded.
- Point it to the iOS 4.3.1 IPSW firmware file.
STEP 4:
- Check ‘Install Cydia’ and click ‘Next’
STEP 5:
- Your iOS device must be Power Off and Plugged IN to the computer. Ensure it and click NEXT.
STEP 6:
- It will prompt you to Enter your Device in DFU Mode.
- The steps are quite self explanatory.
- First you have to Press and Hold POWER button first.
- Without releasing the POWER button, press and hold the HOME button for almost 10 seconds.
- Now released POWER button but continue to hold HOME button (almost 15) until it starts the installation.
STEP 7:
- Let the redsn0w do some automated steps. Sit back and relax.
- After a few automated steps, it will Restart you device.
- After it reboot, you will get a fully jailbroken device on iOS 4.3.1.
Thats it!! Congratulations!!! Your iPhone iPad or iPod Touch is now jailborken on the latest iOS 4.3.1 using Redsn0w.

i just jail broke my iphone 4 with these instructions but cydia has not installed
It just happen to me also, I just tried another PC and everything went ok.
My phone crashed during the tethered 4.3.1 update and I was unable to restore it all weekend.
I tried this jailbreak and it’s still asking me to connect to iTunes.
Does anyone have any solutions?
Give a complete restore via iTunes then go head with the untethered Jb
I’m new at this… I installed everything and it was a success. Cydia opened up and everything. The only problem was that I had no contacts, text messaging, calls, nothing at all. Is there something that I am supposed to do to get those back on my phone or are they supposed to be there from the get go? Help please.nnThanks guys
Oh, sorry to say, but jailbreaking means wiping clear your phone. I hope you got everything backed up on your computer or else you have to start from scratch
When I download the firmware, I don’t see a .ipsw file anywhere in the folder??? I may just be an idiot, but I have tried on 3 different computers and I never get a .ipsw file that RedSn0w will recognize. Any ideas….
I am receiving an error message shortly after my iphone 3GS begins the reboot, post entering DFU mode. I have tried numerous times with the same error resulting. I have even restored my phone and reinstalled redsn0w. can anyone share any insight on the issue i am experiencing? Thanks in advance for your time.
