We have seen Apple accepting the BitTorrent App for Apple Store and thought that Apple was showing a little relaxation for developers by approving their apps easily. But the latest is that Apple has removed the BitTorrent app ‘IS DRIVE’ from App Store.
The app is designed to be used with ImageShack Torrent service. The same app was also available on Cydia previously with the name “Jack Torrents”.
Derek Kepner is the developer of IS Drive app. He puts his Twitter status “Just got a call from Apple, They’re taking IS Drive down. I’m seeing what I can do. I have a feeling I won’t be able to change their mind.”
We have already predicted that it can be a mistake by the Apple app approval staff. As we knew that the descripition of the app did not tell that it was a BitTorrent app. The description only says “Check and manage the downloads in your ImageShack Drive account“.
The developer of the app has also accepted the fact that it might be due to BiTorrent word not present in the descrpition. But the news got so much popularity that Apple has to take another look on it.
Apple has rejected other BiTorrent apps previously saying that they are violating the developer guidelines.
“There are many legitimate uses for ImageShack Drive. I don’t think it’s fair to punish legitimate users for the actions of morons who think my app will help them pirate.” said Kepner who is willing to make an appeal considering that all the BitTorrent downloads are not illeagal.
