Twitter has just announced and introduced Promoted Accounts. You can promote your account by paying Twitter and getting followers. That is surely a breaking news.

Twitter Blog has just posted: “Promoted Accounts are suggested based on a user’s public list of whom they follow. When an advertiser promotes an account, Twitter’s algorithm looks at that account’s followers and determines other accounts that those users tend to follow. If a user follows some of those accounts, but not the advertiser’s account, then Twitter may recommend the advertiser’s Promoted Account to that user. For example, a lot of people who follow several gaming-related accounts also follow @xbox. If someone follows gaming-related accounts, but not @xbox, Twitter may recommend @xbox to that person.”

That is an automated system which uses a certain algorithm will check the promoted account’s follower and find out accounts that users have the tendency to follow.

At the moment side bar only shows “Suggestions for You“. But very soon it will show you “Promoted Accounts” option. Launching of New Twitter will also helped a lot to show promoted accounts on a big side panel area.

Twitter is already facilitating this service to 40 advertisers who according to Twitter has become their regular buyer of Promoted accounts service. Twitter is willing to expand this service by reaching to more advertisers.

Let us see whether Twitter is going to get real big money out of it or not.
